GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provides support for children with special needs in pull out and  in inclusion settings via consultation with teachers and/or direct instruction in intervention strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Massachusetts certification as Teacher of School Age Children with Moderate Special Needs.

2. Experience teaching children with Learning Disabilities, developmental delay and/or behavior disorders.

3. Knowledge of and experience with developmental reading curriculum.

4. Extensive knowledge of multiple learning strategies.

5. Experience as IEP Team member, preferred.

6. Experience including students with significant disabilities in the mainstream a must.

7. Skills designing behavior management programs.

8. Skill in diagnostic evaluation and assessment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop, and/or modify and adapt curricula, materials and physical environment in inclusion classroom to meet needs of individual pupils.

2. Maintain regular communication with specialists, teachers, and parents to ensure a coordinated program.

3. Assist mainstream teachers in modifying curriculum materials to meet needs of 766 students.

4. Attends special needs staff meetings and designated school staff meetings.

5. Prepares progress reports and IEP where required.

6. Participates in Chapter 766 TEAM meetings.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Pupil Personnel Administrator, Elementary Program Head

SALARY: In accordance with the ASC/AEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
