DEFINITION
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Elder Services and working with the Food Service Coordinator, responsible for the preparation of daily meals and special events of the senior center nutrition program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work with other Senior Center staff and volunteers to prepare daily meals and special events.
Work cooperatively with Meals on Wheels vendor(s) and staff or volunteers to achieve smooth operation of the MOW program as it relates to the cafeteria.
Maintain highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen cafeteria.
In the absence of the Coordinator, perform record keeping and menu preparation if necessary.
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Familiarity with quantity cooking and industrial kitchen equipment.
Ability to keep accurate records and complete basic order forms.
Ability to follow health and other food service standards as directed.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and participate as a full member of the Senior Center staff.
Education and Experience
Duties require High School diploma; one year experience in a food service setting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL ELEMENTS
Sustained periods of standing and walking while performing kitchen duties.
Moderate effort required in lifting and carrying cooking supplies and other kitchen materials and/or equipment.
Duties performed in a busy and comparatively noisy kitchen/cafeteria environment.
May involve attendance at evening or weekend meetings or special events.
